Southwest Gwinnett
Student Juried Art Exhibition

Presented by Kudzu Art Zone, Objet d’Art Gallery and the Southwest Gwinnett Chamber

Students in grades K-12 who reside or attend school (public, private, charter, or home-school) within the city limits of Berkeley Lake, Norcross and Peachtree Corners are eligible to enter. The Southwest Gwinnett Student Juried Art Exhibition is opened for artwork submitted starting December 18, 2013. No entries will be accepted after noon, January 4, 2014.

What Types of Artwork Are Eligible?

  • Paintings & Drawings, Photography and Collage should be submitted on paper or poster board mounted on black matting board or gallery-wrap canvas (no visible staples on the sides).
  • Artwork need not be framed. If you choose to frame, please see the framing requirements on the entry form.
  • 3-Dimensional Art must be submitted completed and ready for installation (we will not build art submissions for jurying or display.)  
  • Digital Art is to be submitted on CD, all components must be completely original and submitted in its native form (i.e. Illustrator or Photoshop with all layers.)
  • All art should be complete and ready to display. Finished size must be no larger than 16" x 16" x 20".  
  • Artwork must be the original of work of the student.
  • Entry fee is $5 per student. Scholarships are available.  Limit one entry per student.
  • Entry forms must be signed by the student’s art teacher to verify the school attended. Students not in an art class may have another teacher sign their entry form.  Students who reside in the city limits of the tri-city area who do not attend a participating school in the tri-city area are also eligible.  Student’s parents must show proof of residence with entry form.


What are the Art Categories?

  • Grades K-5 may submit artwork in either Drawings & Paintings or Collage/Mixed Media.
  • Grades 6-8 may select from Drawings & Paintings, Collage/Mixed Media or Photography.
  • Grades 9-12 may select from Drawings & Paintings, Collage/Mixed Media, Photography, 3-D Artâ�¨or Digital Art.

How Must the Art be Submitted?

  • Finished art should be submitted at Objet d’Art Gallery, 5270 Peachtree Parkway #110, Peachtree Corners from December 18 through noon, January 4. The studio hours are 9am until 9pm.
  • Each entry must include a completed entry form and the $5 submittal fee. If you can not pay the $5 submittal fee, you can ask for a scholarship to cover the $5 fee.
  • Attach a 2” X 3” card to the back of work with the following information:
    Name of Artist, School, Grade, Phone Number, Title of Art,  Media


Tell me about the Judging and Exhibition

  • Entries will be judged by a panel of volunteer local artists, teachers and chamber members.
  • Judging will take place January 4-5, 2013.
  • Awards will be announced January 6, 2014 by email or phone. The decision of the judges is final.
  • All winning entries will be on exhibition in five gallery locations in the three communities from January 11 through January 31, 2014.
  • All non-winning art must be picked up by January 10, 2014.
  • Prize-winning art must be picked up between January 31 and February 15.
  • Instructions will be provided to winners prior to exhibition opening.
  • Are there Awards?
  • Prizes will be awarded for First Place, Second Place, Third Place and Honorable Mention for each category and grade grouping.
  • There will also be a “Best of Show” awarded to the Judges choice of all entries.
  • Awards will be presented at the Exhibition’s opening receptions to be held in five galleries within Berkeley Lake, Norcross and Peachtree Corners.  
  • Locations and times of the Opening Receptions will vary and will be announced when winning entries are revealed.


Media Descriptions and Restrictions


Drawings & Painting (2D)
Oils, watercolors, acrylics, graphite pencils, pastels, pen & ink. Art should be on a heavy weight paper, cardstock or 140-lb. watercolor paper, photography paper or poster paper.  Any art created on paper should be mounted on black matting board. Gallery-wrap canvas accepted (no visible staples on the sides). Artwork does NOT need to be framed.
Restrictions: Must be the student’s original art, no kits allowed. No glitter allowed.  Artwork must be suitable for family viewing.

Collage/Mixed Media (2D)
Combined media on paper, board or canvas. Can include but not limited to oils, watercolors, acrylics, graphite pencils, pastels, pen & ink, fiber, fabric, wood, recycled materials or natural resources. No glitter allowed. Must be of stable construction, so it will not degrade or fall apart during the duration of the exhibition. Any art created on paper should be mounted on black matting board. Gallery-wrap canvas accepted (no visible staples on the sides).  Artwork does NOT need to be framed.
Restrictions: Must be the student’s original art. Artwork must be suitable for family viewing.

Photography
Black & white, sepia or color prints on photographic paper. Photographs should be mounted on black matting board. Artwork does NOT need to be framed.
Restrictions: Must be original photographs taken by the student, unaltered other than cropping. No photoshopping!  Photos must be suitable for family viewing.

3 Diminsional Art
May be made from wood, clay, metal, recycled materials or natural resources, no larger than 16" long by 16" wide by 20" tall. No glitter allowed. Must be submitted completed and ready for installation (we will not construct any art submissions for jurying or exhibit.)
Restrictions: Must be the student’s original art.  Artwork must be suitable for family viewing.

Digital Art
Original art using Photoshop, Illustrator or the like must be submitted on cd or dvd with native software files with all layers, etc, included. Please do not submit a jpg, we expect to see levels of work involved in creating the artwork. Art must also be printed on photographic and on black matting board no larger than 16" x 20", framing is not necessary.
Restrictions: Must be the student’s original art. All layers should be included in the native software file submission. Artwork must be suitable for family viewing.

Please note the following:

  • All art should be completed and ready to display.
  • Framing requirements – If you choose to frame your art, please follow these requirements:
    • No sawtooth hangers.
    • Screw eyes 3” from the top of the the frame.
    • Use picture wire. The top of the wire should extend no more than 2" from the top of the frame.
    • Maximum frame size: 16" x 20".
  • Released must be signed with art drop-off.
  • Submission to the art exhibition constitutes permission for use of all art for general publicity.
  • Artwork will not be sold at any of the galleries during the exhibition.
